Last week, we asked our designers, if you could give one bit of advice to a new designer, what would it be? The responses were some of the best bits of advice an experienced designer can give to an up-and-coming new designer. These are the tips they don’t teach in design school, and we’d like to share our favorites with you below.
• Learn the rules of typography before you break them.
• Start small, grow big. Have patience and faith in your work. And be original.
• Get yourself involved into the community as MUCH as possible, and be nice to EVERYONE 🙂 It can often be a case of ‘who you know’ when looking for work.
• Never allow someone that’s not a designer or your client to tell you what to do. You’re the professional!
• Be creative, and do not copy other designs.
• K.I.S.S – Keep It Simple Stupid 🙂
• Space is just as important as content!
• Search-Read-Observe people and the world – be open to taking risks.
• Be you, like no other.
• Don’t to be so serious, you’re an artist!
• Admit and realize that creativity has no barriers and limits.
• Time management is a must and is essential for a normal person to become a DESIGNER.
• Defend yourself and be confident. A designer has to speak up for themselves and prove that they can deliver good artwork.
• See the work of other professional designers to widen your imagination. Learn tutorials from the net, but don’t just copy it! Read it, then try to do it in a different way.
• Be Original…Design from your HEART, MIND, & SOUL
