I thought it might be a good idea to have a single thread listing portfolio hosting sites. Perhaps we could list site fees, advantages, disadvantages, limitations, restrictions... etc.

I noticed several posts asking about online portfolios.

DesignContest.net launches designed.nu - a place where you can host your logo design portfolio.

Here are some more:

Free Online Creative Design Portfolios - Creative Binge free, 21 images

Coroflot - Design Jobs & Portfolios free portfolio and sharing of files

Fliich - showcase yourself appears to be free

Creative Hotlist: Job Searches, Portfolios and Recruiting for Graphic and Web Designers, Writers, Photographers and Illustrators ($35 for 6 months)

Behance Network :: Gallery (beta) By invite

Art Jobs | Design Portfolios | Design Careers | Creative Jobs - Creative Shake Basic portfolio, free, 5 images. Enhanced subscriptions for $10, $22, $49 per month.

-- EDIT -- Here is a compiled list of the suggested links in this thread:

Carbonmade : Your online portfolio. – 35 images, free

Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket – free, image size limitations

Welcome to Flickr - Photo Sharing – 100MB, Free. For $25 a year, Unlimited

DesignFirms Design Directory, Community and Business Development Marketplace – free, unlimited

Simple private real-time sharing and collaboration by drop.io - no account necessary, free

www.blogger.com – free but shouldn’t be used for commercial use.

deviantART: where ART meets application! – free, couldn’t find limitations

Black Turtle Media - Get Noticed! – free, couldn’t find limitations

There are a few others, but left out of this list because I was unsure that they were good options considering the features of all the above sites.

Great idea. I stickied this thread. Hopefully the question will come up much less often now :)

Not technically a portfolio site, but good free image hosting. Limit on image dimensions is the only thing I'm aware of. Can create albums, sub-albums, etc.

Thanks!

I've seen www.flickr.com used for portfolios, too!

I just found this one: http://www.drop.io/

Cool - no account is necessary. That's so unusual.

Drop.io enables you to create simple private sharing points called "drops."

The service has no email signup and no "accounts." Each drop is private, and only as accessible as you choose to deliberately make it. Create multiple drops, add any type of media, and share or subscribe as you want. To make a drop just click the big red button that says 'drop it' (more)

www.blogger.com , wordpress or any blog type websites. Its all free you can upload pictures and movies. Also edit the site to your own liking. Just don't make it look too commercially like putting up prices.

what do you think about uploading some pics on photobucket.com? I thought, that should be enough, to call it a "portfolio"...in my opinion that´s way too much stress - only to take part in some design contests! It´s like: "you´ve gotta do this, you´ve gotta do that first..." - actually I´m pretty much tired of this...I´m just a hobby freelancer trying to get some input and learn from others!

So would a portfolio on Myspace work? Just Curious, but it would also be free.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned deviantart yet
you can upload all of your art and designs at www.deviantart.com
you can subscribe to support the community, but you can use it totally free as well

I don't know myspace very well, even tho I maintain my own. Can visitor look at images without having an account or being logged in?

So would a portfolio on Myspace work? Just Curious, but it would also be free.

Although I haven't used this yet, how about http://www.viewbook.com/?
I just came across it today and really liked its clean layout.
The free basic account will only allow 100 images (unlimited presentations/portfolio pages).

Here's an example of an existing portfolio: http://baillairge.viewbook.com/

Actually, deviantart was in the very first post.

But deviantart is one of the best (or at least most significant), so it deserves special attention.

How about www.illustratorworld.com ? Although it is more exclusive to vector artists.

I personally like my own portfolio site = http://ghbarratt.com/studio , but because I do not get many visitors, I created a deviantart and illustratorworld account.
