.From your Fireworks application go to->File->New, then type in the dimensions of the canvas. Select white as your canvas color.
.Go to the Tools panel and select the Rectangle tool under the Vector section. Then go to colors and click Fill and select a color. If you want to use a gradient or any other type, go to the Fill Options and change the Fill category to the fill type you wish.
.Click and drag the mouse over your canvas and draw a rectangle. Release the mouse when you reach the desired size for the pattern's background.
.Go to Layers panel and select "New/Duplicate Layer".
.Go to the Rectangle tool and hold to display more shapes. Select a shape from the menu.
.Go to "Colors" from the tools panel and choose a fill color for your shape.you can add a stroke by clicking on the Stroke button.
.Click and drag the mouse over the rectangle you have to add your shape. You can add other shapes using the same steps.
.Select your rectangle and go to "Edit" -> "Crop Document" and crop to remove unwanted areas. Go to File->Save. Name your pattern and click Save and close the file.
9. To use this pattern in another file. Open the file you want. Then go to the select section and go to the Pointer tools. You can simply go anywhere in your canvas and click on any text or shape and fill it with your custom made pattern.
.Go to Properties inspector->Fill->Fill Options and select Pattern from the Fill category dropdown list. Choose Other and locate your file, and then double click on it.
