Help me with the blend tool

I followed the blend tool tips from this site 7 Things You Didn’t Know Adobe Illustrator Could Do, but why does mine becomes like this? It's really frustrating that I couldn't do it. It's an amazing tool.  Blend-01.jpg   49.21KB   10 downloads

Are you in preview mode? (Ctrl + Y)(Cmnd +Y:mac)
What look are you trying to achieve with the blend?
Try making your lines 2 different colors using your direct selection tool (A). Top line in red, bottom line in purple or whatever you choose
Add more lines for a smoother blend

Try making one of the lines a shade of black. The reason that won't work is because Black needs something to "BLEND" to. If you make both lines in CMYK: 100%K blend to 100%K it will not work the way you want. Try making the Top line 100%K and the bottom line 80%K. Think of it the same way as a gradient, it's pointless to make a gradient fade from black to black because the only result you will ever get is solid black but if you were to make one of the sliders a shade of black then it'll work check out this example.
