1. First thing you need to do, is get all information required for the user name and password including passwords for the webhosting, FTP, CDN, domain management, all third party premium plugins, and anything else that is used.
2. Change All your Admin Password and update all your admin contact emails
3. Before you start editing or making any changes make sure you familiarize yourself with the website and take notes of anything that you think is important.
4. Before changing anything in the site, take a complete backup.
5. check and update all user roles and permissions and limit the admin user role to those who need it only.
6. Run performance and security scans
7. Make sure your site is submitted properly to Google webmaster tools and that the sitemaps are working well. Also check that your site has the verified Google Authorship, and that you have Google Analytics implemented properly.
8. Add Version Control to your website. You can do this using GitHub or BitBucket.
9. Delete all inactive and unnecessary plugins
