I think the comments on personal submissions should be private. Otherwise, If a client wants changes on my logo and comment on my submission. While I am not online. The other designers start working with the changes. Gets the higher rating.

At the one point you are right, there are pros and cons for both cases. But, private comment will not stop copying, with the private comments client can ask designer to copy (that happened many times), also they can start working privately out of the site. If you see another designer is applying CH's comments referring to you, you can always report it and we shall discuss it.
Another option are blind contests, if that's where you feel more comfortable.

Actually, I wanted to ask you something about this issue because I've always noticed there is a check button next to an entry and both clients and designers can select it, but I never knew what it does...says something like "one-on-one comment"...I can't remember exactly and I can't check because I'm not in any contest at the moment. I saw recently in an open contest a designer who was worried about the possibility of others to copy his design and after that the client told him "new comments - one-on-one" hoping (in my opinion) that only that designer will see the comment.
So, my question is: was that the purpose of that button? to be able to make private comments? Because in a blind contest you don't have to do anything else to hide the comments from other designers, so I just assumed it was meant for open contests.

But this option works? Because as I said in my previous post, the client wanted to send a 1-1 comment (not sure if he actually checked that button) but all designers saw his comments (he only worked with one designer).
As a designer, I have also that option, but the only thing I've noticed is that when I check that button on my comments or other designers check that button, the comments don't appear unless you are logged in. The rest of the comments appear, but not those private. Not sure if I'm clear enough...
It would be great if that option would really work!

I have tested and found it to work when the contestholder marks the comment 1to1 only ch and that designer will see the comment. You see all because you are a moderator. If you were back to normal designer status you would only see that comment for you and ch that ch marked 1to1
MAybe I am not quite understanding you?

oh...that's good news. I had the impression that other designers followed CH comments as well. But probably he didn't check that button all the time. Thank you for claryfing this. It's also true that most of them don't use that option, probably they are not aware of it.
