Ai is the best. structure teaches you to work, not to corel gives you everything in hand and do not think so.

I prefer AI for Logo/Icon designing, because it support more features rather than CorelDRAW but for other design CorelDRAW is best.
thanks

AI and Corel has many same and different feature at the same time which complement each other, personally I use both but corel mostly for conceptual and finishing in AI when necessary such as revolving pattern. Corel is easier to use but if you are getting serious go for AI.

I prefer AI. If you don't have it there is always Inkscape. It is open source stuff.

It really depends on the idea. I always start on paper and stay there until the design reaches 90% of the final look. Sometimes even 100%, at least when it comes to shapes.

Then, the idea itself leans towards CD or AI. Colors, effects and gradients are better in AI, but CD is perfect for shapes and logic operations between them.

As some of you already mentioned, it's best when you switch between them 2 and use each for its own specialty.

Agree on the compatibility of Illustrator with the other Adobe products.
I started and learned in Corel, but then upgraded to AI.
