I cannot believe I was given the visa to UK! Finally I will have a chance to visit an English speaking country. I will be in London in May (3-6). 4 days is not that much, but I hope to see the main tourist attractions and to drink a pint a beer in one of the London pubs. If you have any tips on the sites I need to visit, please, share with me. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I live in england and I have to say that parts of london are not great, but some parts are amazing and if you go to the right places you will see some great stuff and have a great time. Four days is plenty enough time to see a lot of london. Try and stay around the centre of london, near the eye and tate gallery, places like that have some great art and sculptures around. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them.

PostDestruction, well, I would appreciate if you could tell me more about the parts that I should and shouldn't go.
Illumina, I understand that London is not England and I hope I will get a chance to visit other places in the UK. But unfortunately not this time. My visa is issued for 6 months and I will not need to apply for another one if I want to go there again, let's say in summer. All I will need is an invitation (which will prove that I have a place to stay) from there or a hotel booked.
Anyway, I am looking for more advice from you, guys, on places to see in London. Maybe something a little "off the beaten track"?

I lived in England too, until 2003
I lived in one of the towns built for the overspill of London, a town called Stevenage, I was 30 miles away from London. I loved Stevenage, but whenever I made a trip into London I'd just get overwhelmingly depressed. I always got the undeniable impression that I lost all sense of individuality, I felt like a sardine, packed among many other sardines.
resurepus, this one is visited by tourists, but it is fun, and you'll learn a little of Englands "seedy" history. The London Dungeons. Actors take you on a tour of 19th century London, whitechapel area, and one of the group being toured is tried and found "guilty" of being Jack the Ripper. When I went, my brother was also found guilt of being a witch, because his hair was blue at the time.
If you're into history, also try the natural history museum. It his a HUGE place, and when I went it took days to see everything, but its still excellent for a day trip.

oh theres nothing wrong with london, it rocks!
i'm from edinburgh. i went to london for 4 days also recently, 4 days is plenty.
definetely check out the tate art gallery
like anywhere else, you get the good and bad areas.. where are you staying?

I can remember staying in a terrible hotel (Although it was the 'student' quarter) it was just around the corner from Soho (I think, literially) can't remember the name.
I didn't like London on my visit, I'm from the East Midlands and the heart of London just seems to be orientated towards everyone else who isn't from England; so you might like it

Depending on what you're aiming to spend your time in England doing long might want to try going to the sea-side, lovely places to escape from the city too, probably about a two to four hour trip to Cornwall, easy for a day-trip.

You seem excited about visiting London, I am happy for you.
I spent 3 weeks in England back in 95, I visited London during the weekends only. So you'll actually spend more time that I did in London.
I am sure you are aware there's a lot more to see in England, but since you are not staying there for a long time, I suggest you stay in London and get the most out of it. Plan your trip up to the minute,really do some research on the web. Who knows when you'll get a chance to go there again.
Oh and by the way, does you visa say single or multiple entries? single entry means after you're done with your visit and you go back home, you will need to apply for a visa again the next time you want to travel to the UK, no matter how long the visa is for.
Alright, do your homework and don't forget to take lots of pictures to share with us.
