OK, in my couple of days here, I have entered three contests. The RSX Media tempate, the Ed Reggi Actor template, and the Paranoid Fantasy header contest. So far, RSX and paranoid have abandonded their contests and I have yet to hear back from the contest holder on the actor site. (Although, I am VERY sure he will reply) So that means 2 out of 3 contests I have participated in are busts.

I wonder if we could charge contest holders like $5 for unlimited contests, just to make sure they return.

Or would this drive contest holders away???

Yea, there's an idea. Like a deposit is sent to a neutral account. And if the guy disappears atleast the people who participated get compensated a little.

I know it isn't the best idea and there are lots of holes, but imo something is needed.

Don't try to profit yet, its too early. Your traffic is worth more then your $5 fees anyway. I would pay a small amount for a banner somewhere here. For now you need more projects posted anyway. Get more people here by setting up a tutorials area. Also more moderators are needed to clean up some of the errors people are making.

What I had in mind was that the small amount of money would encourage the contest holder to come back. Otherwise it would be five bucks(ie) down the drain.

The only problem I see with the 5 bucks, is that it would drive to many people away. There aren't as many contests as there could be going on as it is... so by making people put a deposit down would make even less. (its just to much of a hassle)

I think a better option, would be having them fill out a form that includes their full name, address, phone number, email, and paypal account before they post a contest.

This way the admins could possibly phone/email the contest holders if there is/was a problem and that way they could shut the contest down if needed.

I dont know... just my ideas. I think something should be done though. :D

I think I have written about it and maybe even several times, but still let me put this idea again and give your comments about it.

We are not insisting on it, there are not that many contests, so we are just giving an option to the contest holders to make their contests guaranteed by designcontest.com which means:
1.we will hold the prize until the winner is chosen
2.there should be a set end date for the contest. In case the contest holder disappears (which happens all the time with plain contests), the community will vote to choose the winner.
3.the winner HAS to be chosen even if the contest holder doesn't disappear.
4.the contest can be extended only to the specified limit.

this is the idea put in a few words. I be would very much interested to know what you think about it.

All seem good except for this one:
3.the winner HAS to be chosen even if the contest holder doesn't disappear.

I think if someone is paying $100 for a logo and they don't see any that they like they shouldn't _have_ to pick one, but there should be some sort of reward for people atleast trying.

I do agree with all your posts but charging $5 for a posting will definitely drive potential contest holders away because for instance I have a contest and haven't really found the exact logo I am looking for yet and I do intend to keep this posting open for a while until I find the logo I decide to choose...Also a lot of people participated and more people are still participating in my contest and in the end ONLY ONE LOGO will be selected. And for all those who participated, I do intend on giving them a link to a web hosting company offering a free 3year hosting plan.....I don't know how long this special hosting plan might last tho..but whoever happens to be the choosen winner still gets the $100 US dollars.

I however do agree with karl472001 on this one...and also this guranteed section should let contest holders know that if they post a contest and just bounce they cannot return to the site or forum no matter what. Just some sort of deterrence to let them know that if they mess up, they ain't coming back that easily...Just a thought.

Well... I think we also don't want people to post contests just to "window shop"

Do we really want clients that can't invest $5-$20 to start a contest? If a client thinks $5 is too much to see 20-30 designs then he is a window shopper (just looking, not buying)

Seriously, if you really need a logo... you won't mind spending $20 to get it started. (The $20 would be given to top designer if no logo was chosen)

Designers what would you rather have:
#1= 1 new logo contest per week with a client that has put down a deposit (I would think that makes him more likely to pick a design, gives a minimum of $20 prize money)

#2= 2 contests per week with clients that have put no deposit down.

I vote #1 :-)

this is all you need to do, if the contest holder says 100$ for a logo, make him give the prize to the site owner, when he chooses the winner the site owner passes the prize on to him
might not work well with hosting prizes but its good for ones with $ on the line

Actually, that has already happened, although there has not really been any announcements indicating it.

yes, we do offer this option to contest starters, but so far there haven't been any guaranteed contests.

I like the above "contest style rules"
I also think maybe having a seperate area for a shopper to purchase a thread for X amount of dollars and that only designers that have won a certain amount of prizes in past can post.

would help this site as well as guarantee successful contests! for some at least.

just a thought
