I fell into photoshop many years back now and have become very skilled and it and have recently begun to make logos and other graphics. The only thing is I have only worked on rasterized designs instead of vector. I want to make the switch into AI so I can make professional logos. I will play around with the program and my own and learn it, but how do you work with layer managment and what do you save it to and how do you get it to be in the 3 different squares that people upload here etc. Any input would be apreciated. Thanks.

It would probably be best to focus on the "designing a logo" part for now. The three squares are a long way away if you've never designed vector graphics before.

Layers in Illustrator are more or less the same idea as in Photoshop. However, you don't have to use only layers to organize your graphics. Each shape you draw is accessible on its own by clicking on it. No matter how many shapes you have on top of each other, they won't blend until you ask them to. If you have a bunch of shapes that make up some complex symbol, you can group them. If you group a set of shapes, you will thereafter only need to click on one of them to interact with all of them.

You can save files in multiple ways depending on what type of file you want to create. If you want to keep editing an Illustrator file, best to save it using File > Save As... But if you want to save it as a regular image, you'll have to use File > Export.

There's plenty more to learn, even for starters. This place might be useful if you have Illustrator CS3:

I was familiar with photoshop first before moving on to illy. You will not have a problem works very similarly. The only thing I have to say that photoshop gives you a lot more to work with, such as filter, to embellish your image . Each has its use, and together they are great!
