My first Apple

I don't know if this has been said... but... the mac processors and clock speeds are not the same as PC processors and clock speeds. Both CPUs are built in entirely different ways which means you can not compare them at all.

I can't explain it that well, but mac processors handle graphics differently, generating them faster in programs such as photoshop. PCs still do not have the same graphical power.

BTW.. I am a PC user

You are right about that, amd, intel and mac simply are different, so it's useless to say that one has more mhz than the other (example AMD XP+ vs Intel). But you are able to compare them by several benchmarks, for each and every component you'll be able to find out everything, 3D Mark is a good one for 3D design (yes design), Cat & games for example, i haven't seen a Mac in the top zillion, but maybe i haven't looked close enough. That counts for every benchmark, but iam sounding like a parrot now.
The Graphics power is a fairytail nowadays, it used to be true just after Apple's introduction, but is passe long time already.

The Atmospere was fine till you started with your Apple propoganda and since this is a forum and since i still live in a free country iam allowed to put things into perspective or even give my opinion based on my eperience. You have your opion i have mine but i went looking for answers in the all long mac vs pc war. And like you i own both.

Nice that you experienced it that way, i experienced the opposide, even with my dual G5 which is Macs finest atm. Besides that i don't understand cause notebooks still don't have the graphicall power and harddisk speeds as regular macs or pc's, usually the mainboard is even slower than regular ATX's (and yes they're using the same).

Yes me too, to bad when i bought an Ipod i needed to buy a new OSX as well (i had 10.1 and needed 10.2 or newer or something). When i bought a new wireless router, i needed to buy a new OSX again (10.3 instead of 10.2 if iam correct). When i bought my Canon Eos 300D digital camera i found out MacOS didn't have drivers available for it, so i bought a cardreader, but damn, again no Mac Support. Same for my USB key, cordless desktop and so on. Iam pretty frustrated by that.

In 2 years i've booted my pc once btw, while iam running dualboot Debian Linux and winXPProSP1, iam only using the last one lately. Since i've been a 'victim' of the first MacOs X i had to boot my Mac about 5 times a day.

Still developped by Microsoft though, they have PC only features as well. Still about 91% (i need to look that up again) of all software releases is PC only though, same goes for driver and update support.

They are okay, nothing special to me though, but i understand you like them. I still miss 50% of the pc only applications iam running unfortunatelly.

Don't go for the G5 though, the results are very dissapointing. I got tricked by the pro-mac fans in buying one myself as well, i should ask for speedevidence next time (besides from apple itself) but i've never seen any..
And buy a good book and some video's if you start rendering in 3D studio Max, Maya, XSI, Houdini, ZBrush, Lightwave, Combustion, MotionBuilder, AfterEffects, Premiere, Gamespace etc etc (if supported without writing files yourself).

It's partly Dutch so the text is useless to most, but just scroll to the benchmarks. (no images unfortunatelly) Those are just a few random CPU tests, i'll dive into more components and more CPU tests soon when iam at home. Especially the mainboard is going to be funny.

Ow keep in mind that both Intel + Amd have new processors already (not just more mhz), that kick the living hell out of theire old ones, same counts for VIA & Nvidia for the chipset as well (to name 2 large ones companies).

Ever run any Macromedia products on a Mac btw, it's fun.

I use Fireworks MX 2004, DW MX 2004 all day long while I design...and yes I love it.
