I get asked this question a lot so I figured I'd post it for anyone who didn't know this.

Is there a way to scale something I've drawn in Illustrator without the lines changing? Getting thicker or thinner?

Yes.

Double click your scale tool(in your tool palette , a square with a little arrow) and click the box next to Scale Strokes and Effects.

The best way to prevent this is to have your lines converted/expanded, When you re-size they stay the same. I hate opening a file that has not been expanded, it makes for a large files as well as a nightmare for for clients that need to size. Always, always expand your strokes or convert to outlines : )

I don't work vectors in photoshop but this is what I found Transforming scaled layer styles strokes - Adobe Photoshop Mac CS, CS2 & CS3 I do not know how this works in the newer versions of photoshop, I would also try a search on this topic in the photoshop help files. Adobe has outstanding help files.

It also helps if you go to the stroke panel and select or change your beveling options. If you dont then you may find unwanted results when scaling.
