To make smoke with adobe Fireworks follow the bellow steps:

.Open an image in Fireworks image, and select the object you want the smoke to come out of. Copy what you selected to a new layer.
.Select the background layer, and draw a smoke shape using the pen tool. Set the brush style to oil and add a textured bristle, and set the fill and stroke midtone gray color.
.Now apply texture to your smoke. Choose the ‘Noise’ filter and select a setting between 1- 10. To disperse the effect of the noise and bristle, mix this with the filter ‘Motion Blur’.
.Set the layer blend mode as ‘Soft Light’. Apply the filter ‘Convert to Alpha’, to make dark smoke. Then you have to adjust the layer transparency as per your taste.
.To make more smoke, add additional strokes. You can either overlay or separate the strokes depending on the effect that you want. You can change stroke sizes, layer transparency and smoke color.
