I logged onto eBay a couple days ago after not being on there for awhile, and I immediately thought "Am I in the right place?" LOL! And then I realized they must have rebranded. I'm a big fan of clean and simple and that is what they did.

I like the new one. But I don't think that they should include trademark symbol at the end of the logo. Who doesn't recognize ebay? yet, the tiny TM text would rather seen like a trash pixel for me :p (I use 14inch laptop for daily work)
Moreover, TM writings isn't appropriate according to copyright rule, they should be bold and capitalized.

Although the previous logo looked very dated - it had more character! This new, clean, simple logo (which could be made in MS Word) might be a bit more modern... but they lost that charm the old one had!

I'm all for simplicity, but your company name in helvetica, even with colors doesn't really strike me as a 'logo' per se. However it's not terrible that they changed it from what it was either. Overall it works.

I Wish there had been a healthy medium between the two designs. I think they should have played around with the baseline, without losing the integrity of the letters.

my honest opinion is from bad to worse, to simple, both the old and the new logo looks like a kids game

Perhaps, I can sense the seriousness behind their new branding plan. Millions dollar is at stake. Hope they gain more success with this new one.

I think it suits eBay's re-branding purpose. eBay's aim with the new logo is to complement the cleaner, more contemporary feel of the website in their effort to become a little more upscale. The old logo with the random placement of the letters brought to mind a jumbled mess -- like browsing some old flea market full of random second-hand stuff. The new logo is streamlined and cleaner but still recognizable as eBay -- it conveys a calmer, upscale, more organized approach to selling online. If eBay had totally revamped the logo into something radically different, they would have lost their brand recognition. Those multicolored letters are synonymous with eBay -- even in a blur, when you see that color pattern, you think eBay. Although it's not the most imaginative logo, I think it is the best approach they could have taken to represent their desire to be perceived as a "global marketplace" rather than just an online junk-seller. I never cared for the first incarnation of the logo, but eBay is doing the best with what they have.

The new one is definitely more interesting and playful. Its up and to-the-right direction gives it qualities of progress and ambition.

The one on the bottom is actually the old logo.

I personally think that the old one came across more playful and less business like, but as a former eBay seller I can also say that they became considerably more business oriented and less "garage sale" related. Because of this perhaps they made the right choice?

I'm not too fond of either, but the old one looks better imo.
