Great logos seem to stand the test of time and do not need frequent replacement, maybe a little polishing.

Simple, clean, memorable, evocative marks work best in the retail universe.

Great designers can bend rules to give a new mark a visceral connection.

A massive budget can make a mark successful by repetition, but it cannot make it loved. (see Pepsi Cola vs Coke Cola)

As a general rule, simple novel designs work best.

A current trend seem to be toward rustic, nostalgic, home-grown, logos that feel "genuine" and "personal,"not a product of digital market research.

That is, it is not from Proctor & Gamble. It comes from the blogging mom down the street.

Similarly, major international brewing corporations are buying up small craft breweries like eating peanuts. They want to be your neighborhood vender of "real".

What is a great logo? It all depends. :)

I completely agree with you ...

Also,

IMHO: A great logo is that which sticks up into your mind and you can never ever get rid of it (no matter the reason why), and it evokes in you that original brand and feeling that it was intended to.

Some examples (just a couple of'em) (IMO): CocaCola, YellowPages, Johnny Walker, Android, Polo.

Comments?

Cheers.

Nice post,:

A logo is an identity that anchors in the human mind through its simplicity. It does not necessarily represent
a service or a product. The human brain must remember it easily though its legibility and coherence

The sole objective of a logo is memorability

Nowadays logo designs are very popular. Online businesses are taking control over physical business. Which means a good logo is a must for a business. That is why visionary logo designs are considering your needs and giving their best services. Also, take help from different brands for inspiration. Designers should be highly professional and should know how to make a perfect logo.
