To make sure your plugins are working in the most optimized manner do the following:
1.Make sure that you always update to last installation of WordPress. Keep track and everytime a new update is released, go ahead and update.
2.If you have plugins that you are not using currently make sure they are disabled. If you changed themes, make sure you disable the plugins that you no longer need from your old theme.
3.Keep you active plugins updated up to date.
