There is an option to control the character spacing in Illustrator. Does it give same result?

Sure in illustrator there's and option to do so, just click on the character option when selecting the font and play with the options

I don't recommend using Century Gothic for body text. It's better for headlines and short sub-heads. As a geometric typeface, its readability isn't very good at small sizes and there are much better options (like the ones mentioned in the first post, which are web-safe fonts)
