To make a photo look like a painting using Adobe Fireworks do the following
.Open your Adobe Fireworks application, and open the image you want to give a painting look to..
.Right click on the image and from the pop up menu, select Duplicate.
. From the top menu go to "Filter" -> "Blur.”-> "Gaussian Blur".
.Edit the pixels value until you reach the look that you want. Start with the value 20 and then go up. Increasing the pixels value will increase the blur.
.From the top meny, go to Layers->Darken and Click OK .
