For me, this is un ugly distortion of Valentine's Day which is first of all a day of a Saint whose name was Valentine - St. Valentine's Day! I dont find these hidous things good for anybody... these images impress the subconscious in a bad way! It may be a fashion to depict monsters everywhere, but if those descriptions were alive in real life, I dont think you would enjoy it very much... Careful what you aim for because those images are the opposite of succes and happiness!
LMAO...
so you bring up a thread from 2007 (3yrs old) then bash it? it's all in fun and creativity. The reasons monsters are a part of art is because there really isn't any in an un human form. so the fun part is searching your creativity for a visual of what a monster might be.
Really. this amazes me. I've been going through some of your posts and alot have nothing to do with the topic at hand then there's this one it's on topic but has no reason for even being brought up cause it's soooo old. There was a more recent monster valentines day contest you could of spoke about.

Second, I noticed several contest themes like - Evil Santa Clause or Monster's Valentine Day - and I'm wondering, really these themes make you think of art??? For me these themes themselves are hilarious...Or maybe when you were a child, Santa Clause was evil and mean to you??? If you want to make a contest about monsters, do it with monsters, not with some characters that can never ever be seen as monsters!! Pretty soon I will see here a contest about Monster Jesus....if I were to agree with you!
Art must have some connection with reality and separate what is good and could never be bad from what is evil, otherwise it's lost as art!

This site is different in that they want to know something about the people who are making the art and not just a stop and go place to dump designs off.
I think a contest with a "Monster Jesus" theme would be great! It would really let everyone know who is uptight and who can relax and express there inner artist.
P.S. art doesn't have to have any meaning at all!

completely & utterly disagree. It is IMPOSSIBLE to define art with any parameters, especially good vs. evil. The concept of good vs. evil in itself can be made into art. That's just plain ridiculous.

First of all I wrote in a thread dedicated to this contest theme - Monster's Valentine Day - I neither saw the date because the thread was displayed among the latests.

Interesting comment for the most part. The balance between good and evil is in it self a personal one. One persons evil is another persons good. To whom is to dictate what is good or evil about it.
Santa and valentines day are dipicted characters and have nothing to do with the true meaning behind the day in it self. Santa is fun and entertaing for children but the adults know the true and real meaning for what christmas is suppose to mean and it's not about a fat jolly guy giving presents. Valentines day is just a way for people to get a card in my opinion and the choice of naming after a saint never made sence to me. althought I've not studied it in all that much detail.
As for an evil Jesus. I'd draw the line there.
And you really can't put art in a box and say it's this or that. I could have my kids paint something and end up selling it for thousands to the right sucker... I mean person. doesn't mean I think it's good or bad but to someone it's one or the other.

Anyone thinking these silly entertainment monster contests as serious needs to go take a nap or something.
Art is subjective in ways. Art is beautiful and art can be ugly, art can be real and art can be made up. What I like might not be what you like. Thank goodness the world has more art than just what I like. I may not like a certain style or subject but I appreciate it . I appreciat the skills, the time an artist puts into the artwork. I do think we artists/designers can be a little different at times but aren't we all at times?
