Difficult to compare the two since they are two different types of applications. One is a vector based image editor where as the other one is the industry standard post production editor for photography and graphics. Ideally you'd want to use both in your workflow.

Yup, Photoshop does not produce vector graphics like coreldraw 7. Adobe's counterpart in coreldraw 7 is Adobe Illustrator. I am more familiar with the adobe suite than Corel, so I'm going to be a bit biased.
I prefer adobe since it is mostly used by most designers. I just think AI's gradients and shadows are better than that in Corel.
