I upload my work with .jpeg format.

It have small file size and acceptable quality.

I use 'Save for Web' to rasterize it.

No browser is capable of displaying .ai or .cdr file. In order to view these kind of files, one has to have a program, and open the files. You can upload an .ai file, but it will display only the icon, name and exyension of the file.

You can use any type of raterized web file ie, "save for web". But you should really learn which file is used for what. For example and PNG is good for transparencies while a gif is used for 8 bit/265 colors and a jpg is used for millions of colors with the standard white background. This way you can use the correct file format for the correct image and keep your files sizes down.

I don't know all the specifics of what you are trying to accomplish, but you could save the .ai file into a pdf. The pdf should maintain the vector aspects of your artwork.

Of course, there are problems with that. The user has to have Acrobat reader installed. I think most people do by now. The other problem is that you can only link to a pdf and not show it within the web page.

What you could do is create a thumbnail jpg and link it to the pdf.
