Hi, I'm new to vector graphics and I want to participate in these contests. I wanted to try Illustrator to see if I could make a vector image so I downloaded the trial. I have 7 days left and I still haven't been able to produce a vector image. Are there any good tutorials for a complete beginner for Illustrator?

I recommend that you do a google search for Illustrator tuts. You will end up with a list of dozen great sites to choose from.
One site I like is vectortuts.com which gives detailed step by step instructions. I also like to search youtube for any vector based tuts. If you are pretty familiar with Adobe Photoshop then Illustrator should be very easy to learn and you could also follow photoshop tuts while designing it in illustrator.
